imperfection

why is it that we kill our own? why do we as believers hold each other to so high a standard, such an unattainable standard, that if WHEN we fail, we make each other feel like failures?
when did we become a body that looks with disdain at our members because they don’t happen to SIN the same as us? because she doesn’t bruise the same?

isn’t that what God meant when he said we were a body, with many parts?
YES, I KNOW that in 1 Corinthians 12  He was speaking about our roles in the church, but i think it applies here as well. especially this part:

But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1 Cor. 12:24b-27)

if i, as a toenail, look at the finger nail and loathe it because it has polish that’s chipped and it needs a bit of filing on the side, am i a better toenail for it?
are you?

THIS LIFE WITH JESUS ISN’T ABOUT PERFECTION!!!

it’s not about that at all…its about HIM!

and if He loves us like He says He does…

if He loves us enough to be born in barn (hello stink!) and to be raised by paupers…

…enough to be lonely…

…enough to leave EVERYTHING glorious about Heaven behind…

…if He loves us enough to die and RAISE again, then don’t you think He knows you’re imperfect?

or, do you think He’s surprised that you did whatever you keep beating yourself up about?
He is absolutely CRAZY for you!! and that beloved, is what this love is for!

so won’t you stop? just for a moment and just LOOK AT HIM!?

He’s smiling with love in His eyes…

  1. Dear Shannon
Oh, my friend, how true and filled with wisdom your post is today. I think whenever we begin to consider ourselves as having it all together or figured out, we are actually lost in the forest of pride. Oh, let us rather help to carry one another’s burdens than pointing fingers and dissecting one another’s weakness.

  2. Stopping by from FMF. I think it’s important to distinguish between perfection (because believers are called to “be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect”) and perfectionism, the latter being the comparing, critical wedge that can harm the body. Focus on Jesus should remind us of His love and mercy and what He has already done on the cross for us, yes, but we should also remember that even though Jesus loves us so much He accepts us as we are, He loves us too much to leave us right where we are.

  3. Ive been reading some of your posts tonight n I so love the way you write. The way I can see n feel what you are feeling To see your life n yourself through your eyes not mine. Not the eyes of your momma but your eyes. It makes me happy for your talent n you joy and so sad for your sorrow. I will continue this journey in your words. Continuing to learn of the wonders that make up my beautiful daughter and her beautiful heart. I love you my lovely daughter n the woman you are becoming.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
